ZONE GIGUE

VIDEO EXCERPT

Choreographer : Marie-Soleil Pilette
Dancers : Maïgwenn Desbois, Olena H, Pamela Poulin
Lighting design : Jade Boudreault-Dazé

Built on the rhythm of a waltz-clog, ZONE GIGUE is a choreography that is entirely a capella. The music is therefore uniquely and solely provided by the dancers' through movement and voice. The rhythmically dense and the constant renewal of movement and breath intensify the visible, audible and sensible experience of the audience. The never ending rhythm as well as the continuous endurance and physical effort rendered by the dancers tend to hypnotise the audience into an almost trans-like state.

ZONE GIGUE Interweaves both traditional step dance and contemporary dance in an innovative and unedited way.

ZONE GIGUE was presented for the first time at Tangente theatre, from January 23rd to the 26th, 2003.

CHAISES

VIDEO EXCERPT

Choreographer : Marie-Soleil Pilette
Dancers : Maïgwenn Desbois, Olena H, Pamela Poulin, Mélissandre Tremblay-Bourassa
Lighting design : Jade Boudreault-Dazé

LENGHT : 30 minutes

CHAISES is an a capella choreography throughout which the dancers play with chairs. In addition to being both percussive instruments as well as partners for the dancers, these chairs also become objects that model and move their bodies. Falling and flinging themselves freely through space, the dancers land on the chairs in different ways always offering an element of surprise. The complex polyrhythm and the dancers' physicality evoke strong and instinctive feelings of vitality.

In CHAISES, both traditional step dance and contemporary dance are strong sources of inspiration for the choreography. The art of traditional foot taping is also present in this new percussive dance style

CHAISES was presented for the 1st time at Tangente, from March 18th to the 21st, 2004. The creation of this work was possible thanks to the financial support of the Quebec Arts Council as well as the City of Montreal's Foundation for Youth.

VIDEO EXCERPT

Choreographe : Marie-Soleil Pilette
Dancers : Maïgwenn Desbois and Pamela Poulin
Lighting design: Jade Boudreault-Dazé
Sound design : Marc Maziade
Costume design: Francine Metthé

LENGHT : 40 minutes

If "naïve art” can apply to dance, it is with MÉMOIRE. In this piece, each dancer tells the story of her grandmother using words and movement. Resembling dance theatre, these true stories communicate a multitude of nuances and subtleties as well as fine-tuned, full-out and exuberant dancing. Evoking great sensitivity and tenderness, the dancers' bodies become mediums of expression that connect us with our own memories of those who have come before us.

Inspired by the present cultural heritage and identity of Québec, MÉMOIRE is a hybrid style of both traditional stepdancing and percussive contemporary dance.

MÉMOIRE was presented for the first time at Tangente the 28-29-30 of April and May 1st 2005.

ÉCHOS SIGNÉS

VIDEO EXCERPT

Choreographe : Marie-Soleil Pilette
Dancer and player: Marie-Soleil Pilette and Nicholas Williams
Lighting design: Jade Boudreault-Dazé
Sound design : Nicholas Williams

LENGHT : 20 minutes

Marie-Soleil Pilette presents this new choreography in which she casts herself as a dancer for the first time.

Intimate and sensitive, ÉCHOS SIGNÉS reflects Marie-Soleil's choreographic signature, by blending the voice with contemporary, percussive and traditional Québec dance styles, to the musical compositions of flutist Nicholas Williams. A floating and off-balance body, fragile, getting tossed about by its own movement and breath, all the while being propelled and grounded by the musical and rhythmic pulsations. The subtleties and the sharpness of the music fill the air and the ears as though they could almost stop time. The stage is set for a meeting of the minds and hearts, a dialogue created by two artists and their interwoven mediums of expression.

ÉCHOS SIGNÉS will be presented on August 9th and 10th at l'Agora de la Danse, as part of the Grande Rencontre's festival line-up. During the creation of this piece, SANS TEMPS dance of the residences at L’Agora de la Danse, at UQAM’s Dance department, as well as the facilities of the SPDTQ.
